A dear friend once told me :" If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine ! its lethal..."
No one likes the routine especially the young students who find school sometimes boring and it is the routine that their lives revolve around. Moreover, we as teachers sometimes forget that the simple explanation for the students misbehavior is that they are done with this routine, and want somethings to break it so they can survive till the end of the day. And here comes the role of the recess time that is supposed to be done twice a day for a time limit of 30 mins.
The recess is the chance for the students to really have a break from the fast rush of activities and homework, memorizing and copying that they are obligated to do. Besides its physical importance where the students just by playing or walking can release the stress they fill up in the class, recess provides a setting in which children can learn and practice cooperation, conflict resolution, and perspective taking and talking skills. Although adults can teach children these skills, but children learn and develop these skills more effectively when interacting with peers. This is because children are more likely to disagree with peers than with adults, and children are motivated to resolve conflicts with peers so that they can continue the play interaction.
Well Lama, I do believe that recess is an important time for the students to build social and linguistic skills as well as it offers great opportunities for physical activity, this rings the bell for the importance of making recess time appropriate and secure to foster and maximize its benefits. However, I believe that teachers should be around to make sure that the students are involved in various practices that will enable them to develop their awareness of linguistic, social, and emotional needs, and they should be there to make sure that the students are safe; playing, jumping, and exercising with their friends, in a safe environment. Therefore, more time and supervision are one of the crucial rights of children that teachers and educational leaders should never ignore.
ReplyDeleteFor sure Iman , the students are never left alone in recess without the teacher's supervision
DeleteStudents efforts must be appriciated and we should feel what they are going through in a single school day.Routine is absolutely lethal thats why we should try our best to let our students enjoy learning with different types of activities, methods, and styles. Recess is an important right for the students whether we admit it or not, and it is our duty to make sure that this break time is an opportunity for our students to develop their skills and build their personality safely.
