Start it up !

There are wicked and funny ways to start up your class and grab your students attention. One way that I loved is " That's New ". I usually ask my students to bring with them an interesting fact to share with the class in 3 minutes. You will be amazed by the smile that is printed on the class face when they hear, share and spread the info they received from their fellow friend. Here are some interesting piece of information that can keep you wondering for a while:

- When Hippos are upset, their sweat turns red.
- Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair.
The owl can rotate 360 degrees head.
The giraffe sleeps only 7 minutes per day and makes it stand.
-The cheetah is the fastest animal on four legs and can reach up to 100 km / h

- Every time you sneeze some of your brain cells die.

Friends forever

School can be a tough time, but having school friends is something that will always make it better. Making friends in school means making friendships that really can last forever.
Good friends help you shape the way that you want to be. They can help you make good choices and guide you to the right decisions. When you hang out with people who don't have your best interest at heart, you could easily get hurt. But when  you are hanging out with people who do care about you, they will encourage you to make positive choices. Remember that you are going to be influenced by the way that your friends believe, so try to be sure that you are thinking carefully about your friends and what types of people they are before you decide to spend a lot of time with them.
Remember, as well, that it is just as important to be a good friend for them. Listen to what your friends say, give them good advice and give them your opinions. Be sure that you aren't alienating them or hurting them in any way. Just as you want them to be dependable, be that way for them.
Remember, awesome friendships are made in schools. Make 'em and keep 'em.

While playing Basketball...

One of my favorite books is: “Lemony Snicket, A series of unfortunate events". I talks about three young kids who lost their parents in a serious car accident and are put in an orphanage. They move from a foster house to another. Mean while a mean Duke keeps chasing them to get the full custody so he can take over their money. Every time the kids face him, a bad thing happens to the foster parents and they move again.
Well I think I’m having such series of unfortunate events when it comes to sports! Every year I play one perfect match with my fellow friends and bad thing happens to me.
Last year while I was playing Basket ball, I fell off and broke my left foot. I suffered since I had a full time job, followed by afternoon classes. I needed continuous help to move, walk even to sit. I counted the minutes to take the cask off and finally I did.
This year while I was playing the same match, I broke the my pinky! Its sarcastic the same game, the same time, the same pain and the same upcoming moments of anger, frustration and weakness.
I do not want to expect what bone would I break the third match, that is why I am finding myself a new hobby with no BALL :p

Have a break !

A dear friend once told me :" If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine ! its lethal..."
No one likes the routine especially the young students who find school sometimes boring and it is the routine that their lives revolve around. Moreover, we as teachers sometimes forget that the simple explanation for the students misbehavior is that they are done with this routine, and want somethings to break it so they can survive till the end of the day. And here comes the role of the recess time that is supposed to be done twice a day for a time limit of 30 mins.

The recess is the chance for the students to really have a break from the fast rush of activities and homework, memorizing and copying that they are obligated to do. Besides its physical importance where the students just by playing or walking can release the stress they fill up in the class, recess provides a setting in which children can learn and practice cooperation, conflict resolution, and perspective taking  and talking skills. Although adults can teach children these skills, but children learn and develop these skills more effectively when interacting with peers. This is because children are more likely to disagree with peers than with adults, and children are motivated to resolve conflicts with peers so that they can continue the play interaction.

Eat your Veggies kids !!

Being in the recess time with your students, makes you observe the tremendous unhealthy eating habits that they all follow! They are always crowded on the store window crying out for chocolates , candies and the traditional " mankoushi" . I barely see some students who have their own lunch box with fruits and vegetables inside it. More kids are becoming obese and the energy boost they take from sugars make them go wild in their classrooms..

Jamie Oliver a famous British young chef , entered to the classrooms in the UK, he was more then shocked when almost all the students were not able to recognize the name of the primary vegetables. So he decided to make a food revolution and managed to change the eating habits of schools across the UK.We can do that across our schools by helping the Bad Lunch bags change into healthier veggier ones ! and here are some tips that Jamie suggests in brief:

a- Sneak it in: If your kids do not eat raw vegetables, then try to sneak it. For example make a cake with carrot or orange juice  without even making them notice that the vegetables are inside it!

b- Make funny characters with vegetables and insert it in their lunch box. the will find it fun and delicious.

c- Put the vegetables in the lunch box and write a small note beside it for your kids to read before they eat. the soft warming words make them feel the love that your are sending through your food :)

Bookoholics

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”
— John Green, The Fault In Our Stars

You meet into people that can never survive without reading books and books throughout their days. If you ask them behind the reason why, they simply give you this powerful answer:" We just live several lives while we are reading".
Such people who are said to be " bookoholics" make a unnoticeable percentage of the students in our schools. Its probably because we punish the students by making them read a book instead of encouraging them to do such so they can enrich their minds and souls and become better people.

Reading books is similar to the regular supplement vitamin tablet that you take every day.Instead of  filling free time with expensive entertainment gadgets why not help our students fall in love with books again by showing the list of advantages such hobby has.

It is an active mental process and a fundamental skill builder because books help clarify difficult subjects and provide information that goes deeper than just classroom discussion. It helps to Improve the vocabulary and improves concentration and focus  since you must concentrate in order to read,  so like a muscle, you will get better at concentration.
Studies show if you don’t use your memory, you lose it. Reading, although not a game, helps you stretch your memory muscles in a similar way. So lets bring books back to the hands of our students , lets build better generations !
